 lants and Opera - Oh\, My!' \n\nJohn’s initial introduction to opera came 
 when a high school music teacher suggested he volunteer to usher when the 
 Metropolitan Opera made its annual tour stop in Memphis. He has been hooke
 d ever since! As a young singer\, he appeared in Opera Memphis productions
  of <i>Carmen</i> and <i>Tosca</i> as well as serving as production manage
 r for productions of <i>Aida</i>\, <i>La bohème</i>\, and <i>Ariadne auf N
 axos.</i> \n\nJohn has been with Opera Birmingham since 1999. In that time
 \, he has provided many young singers the opportunity to successfully expa
 nd their repertoire\, and he has also many internationally acclaimed artis
 ts to the city in both recital and staged performances. \n\nOver the years
 \, John has been recognized nationally for his work with Opera Birmingham.
  Nancy Raabe of <i>The Birmingham News</i> named him outstanding arts admi
 nistrator in his first season and he was once named one of the <i>Birmingh
 am Business Journal's</i> 'Top 40 Under 40.' \n\nAfter the reception\, sti
