Arts Alfresco Concert: "Eric Essix"
Born in Birmingham, Essix got his first guitar at age 10. He taught himself to play and was playing in his first band at age 13. Toward the end of his teenage years, Essix began his journey into the world of jazz. Considered a musical prodigy, Essix is the youngest musician to be inducted into the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame. He was named “Best Jazz Musician of 1995” by Birmingham Magazine. Of the style he developed, Essix puts it this way: "The result is a sound with a distinctly southern flavor that represents much of who I am as a player and a person. I have always wanted to tell my story in my own way, and now I realize that I must use my own voice on the guitar to do that effectively.” His latest release is a compilation call Retrospective which features music that spans an 18-year recording career. Bring a chair and enjoy food available from corporate sponsor Full Moon Bar-B-Que. Tickets available at Aldridge Gardens or online at www.aldridgegardens.com and Facebook. Or, you may pay at the gate the evening of the concert. This is an Arts Alfresco event made possible by grants from the Alabama State Council on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts and corporate sponsors Aztec Rentals and Full Moon Bar-B-Que.
