Did you know that Aldridge Gardens has one of the finest bonsai collections in the Southeast?

We are excited to announce that the bonsai have returned to their new home at Aldridge Gardens, the Meyer Bonsai Terrace! Many of you have missed one of the Gardens’ most loved attractions, as over a year went into the planning, design and construction of the Terrace. But the wait was worth it. John Walker, of Walking Tree Bonsai, our curator, created both an outstanding addition to the Gardens and a wonderful new venue to display bonsai in more appropriate surroundings.

Visitors enter the terrace through our own version of a Torii gate. Once inside, a meandering brick path winds down to the Terrace overlook, and you are surrounded by bonsai on platforms. There are also beautiful stones that have been specially selected to be displayed alongside these living pieces of art. In addition, there are plantings complementary to the bonsai theme and a “Zen” fountain. The Terrace itself affords beautiful new views of the Gardens.

Some of the original platforms have been relocated to the Terrace, and there are bonsai at the patio level of the Aldridge House as well. The Meyer Bonsai Terrace can be found behind the Aldridge House just beyond the Roots Gift Shop and is open during normal Gardens’ hours. Bonsai are swapped periodically, so the experience will change several times during the year. Come visit this truly magical addition to Aldridge Gardens!
