Utz is the curator and historian for Sloss Furnaces Historic Landmark in Birmingham and an adjunct instructor for the UAB Department of History. She is also the author of Iron and Steel: a Guide to Birmingham Area Industrial Heritage Sites and provided the text for Sloss Furnaces (Images of America).
